The Philippines and Australia established diplomatic ties on 22 May 1946, and in 1947 the Philippine Government established its foreign mission in Sydney. While its current consular jurisdiction is limited to New South Wales, we receive clients from every where in Australia.

 

The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney provides consular services to Philippine citizens, Australians, and other nationals. It is a focal point of the Philippine Government in the state of New South Wales. It enjoys a vibrant partnership with the large Filipino-Australian community in New South Wales, which numbers around 127,000 as of 2018.

THE CONSULATE RECEIVES APPLICATIONS FOR PASSPORTS, NOTARIALS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, NBI CARD FINGERPRINTING, CIVIL REGISTRY, AND OTHER CONSULAR SERVICES. WE ALSO EXTEND ASSISTANCE TO DISTRESSED FILIPINOS AS APPROPRIATE.

CHARMAINE ROWENA C. AVIQUIVIL
Consul General

Ms. Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil is a seasoned career diplomat who has served in different capacities in the home office and the foreign service of the Department of Foreign Affairs. She assumed her responsibilities as the Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, Australia on 25 October 2022.


In the Home Office, Consul General Aviquivil was assigned in the Office of Planning and Coordination as Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Middle East and African Affairs as Director, Public Information Services Unit and Office of United Nations and other International Organizations as Principal Assistant.


In the Foreign Service, Consul General Aviquivil was assigned as Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General to the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, Norway. She also served as First Secretary and Consul and later as Consul General to the Philippine Embassy in Athens, Greece, Second Secretary and Consul to the Philippine Embassy in Cairo and Consul to the Philippine Consulate in Agana, Guam.


Consul General Aviquivil holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in Philippine studies, both from the University of the Philippines.

Consul Sheila Marie C. Tario is the Consulate General’s Planning Officer and Supervising Officer for Passport, Visa, and Assistance to Nationals Services. She is also the focal person for Political and Economic Affairs.

 

Consul Tario joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2005 after passing the Foreign Service Officer Examinations. She was later promoted to Career Minister in 2022 after passing the Career Minister Examinations. 

 

A career public servant with almost two decades of government service, Consul Tario was previously assigned to the Philippine Embassy in Athens, Greece as Third Secretary and Vice Consul and later on as Second Secretary and Consul from 2012 to 2018.

 

In the Home Office, she served concurrently as Acting Director and Principal Assistant at the Office of Personnel and Administrative Services from 2006 to 2008, Assistant Board Secretary of the Board of Foreign Service Examination from 2006 to 2008, and Member of the Philippine Delegation to the Drafting of the ASEAN Charter in 2007. She then later served as Acting Director at the Office of ASEAN Affairs from 2010 to 2012, and as Director at the Office of European Affairs from 2018 to 2024.

 

Consul Tario graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management Economics in 2004 from the Ateneo De Manila University. She also earned a Master of Public Policy Degree in 2010 from the National University of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

DIANA MARIE D. JIMENEZ-LEOMO

Vice Consul

Vice Consul Diana Marie D. Jimenez-Leomo is the Supervising Officer for Dual Citizenship, Civil Registry, Notarial Services and Overseas Voting. She is also the Focal Person for Cultural and Filipino Community Affairs as well as Gender and Development.

 

Vice Consul Jimenez-Leomo joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2022 as part of the Strategic Communications Unit of the Department's Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy, where she helped convey the Philippine position on various situations and developments to concerned publics.

 

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, she worked with the Space Business Development Division

of the Philippine Space Agency, helping establish networks between the Agency and key

players in the space industry. An advocate for the use of technology for inclusive growth, she

has also worked as a project manager at the Innovation Council of the Philippine Department

of Science and Technology and in several AI-technology start-ups. She also worked with

DreamStart Labs, the developer of DreamSave, a FinTech app for informal community banks

and savings groups, where she helped the pilot roll out of the app to savings groups in Manila.

 

She holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor's degree in

Materials Engineering, both from the University of the Philippines.
