Philippine Consul General Joins the Launch of
“Kuwento ng Alon” Art Exhibit of Filipino Visual Artist
Ms. Kristine S. Lim in celebration of 2023 National Arts Month

Sydney, 8 February 2023 – In celebration of the Philippine National Arts Month, Consul General Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil joined the launch of the “Kuwento ng Alon” Art Exhibit on 8 February 2023 at ACI Central, Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia. Several officials from different Filipino community organizations in New South Wales also participated in the event.

In her remarks, Consul General Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil shared her appreciation to Filipino missionary visual artist Ms. Kristine S. Lim for selecting Sydney as the first venue of the international tour of the exhibit, which coincided with the National Arts Month (NAM). The annual NAM celebration is mandated through Presidential Proclamation No. 683, s. 1991 and pays tribute to the artistic excellence of Filipino people, as well as the uniqueness and diversity of Filipino culture. She added that this year’s theme “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing” lauds the artistic excellence and underscores the capacity of the arts to heal, rebuild, and restore in a post-pandemic setting.

The artworks and art installations of Ms. Lim, which are interpretations of the songs of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Mr. Jonathan Manalo, “sends a message of faith, love, trust, and hope,” Consul General Aviquivil added.

To give a brief background on the exhibit Ms. Lim expressed the story behind the artworks, which aim to impart the story of Filipinos’ achievements despite challenges, “the ugliest part of our story is the most beautiful part of our testimony.”

The exhibit will run from 8 to 11 February 2023 at ACI Central. More information on the exhibit may be viewed at its official website https://kuwentongalon.com/ END
